September 11, 2001, has been for me, as I'm sure it is for others, a day that I will never forget. I was in College, and I was working in the mornings on campus. I was supposed to be to work by 6:45am Mon.-Fri. However that morning, I had slept in, and I woke up at 7am. I immediately called work to tell them I was on my way, and they told me to get there quickly. As soon as I walked in, everyone was staring at the TV in our bosses office as we watched the second plane crash into the World Trade Tower. I sunk down on my bosses floor as I watched all of this happening, and I just cried. I didn't know who in the world could do something so terrible. The rest of the day was a blur to me. Over that next month however, I was so excited to see the great patriotism that existed in the area. Everyone had an American Flag flying from their home, and everyone was a little kinder and more helpful to their neighbors and friends. I was very proud to be from such a great nation that worshiped God, and allowed us the freedom to do so.
This Sept. 11th, the campaign staff was given the day off, because McCain had pledged not to campaign on such a day as of rememberance as this. So I chose to spend my day in York, Maine. I went to the beach, and to the Lighthouse at Cape Neddick called the "Nubble Light". This was a grand experience, and I truly enjoyed myself. Then I came back to New Hampshire, and I attended the American Legion's Memorial service in Hampton, NH. It was a wonderful service with the Governor, and then several Veterans from each branch of the military spoke. The American Legion in Hampton has put together a granite plaque that names all of the soldiers that have died in Iraq or Afghanastan from New Hampshire since the war began, and they add new soldier every Sept. 11th. What a wonderful way to memorialize those who lost their lives defending our great nation!
